Pray for Japan - Day 2 - COVID-19
Thanks for embarking on this journey of 10 days of prayer for Japan with us! We know that God needs to be at the center of all we do. He is the reason we are going to Japan in the first place! We want to cover the nation of Japan in prayer. Although sometimes it's hard to ask for it ourselves, our family also needs prayer as we begin to make final preparations for our move to Japan.
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."
Psalm 147:3
For our second day, we'd like to pray for the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan. Japan was one of the first countries to be hit by the coronavirus in early 2020. They shut down their schools and even had to postpone the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games one year to the summer of 2021 (and even this date could be in doubt). Lighthouse had to postpone our 2nd annual VBS mission trip to Saiwaicho Christ Church in Ibaraki as well. Thankfully many in Japan are already used to wearing face masks. Japan seemed to get the pandemic under control last summer and reopened schools and began opening up the country to foreigners once again in September 2020. However, another COVID wave has taken hold (including the new variant) and the prime minister recently declared a state of emergency in and around Tokyo, once again putting a stop to foreign travelers.
We pray for God to work a mighty miracle to slow and stop the COVID-19 pandemic, both in Japan and across the world. We pray for God's hand of protection, for people to be kept healthy and safe, especially all the frontline workers.
We pray for quick approvals (and acceptance by the public) for the COVID-19 vaccine by the Japanese government. Currently, there are no approved COVID-19 vaccines available in Japan. Japan requires trials to take place locally in Japan before approval. Prime Minister Suga has said he hopes the Pfizer vaccine will be approved by the end of February, while Moderna's vaccine likely won't get approved until May.
Until the pandemic ends, we pray that God will continue to use this uncertain time to reveal His glory. We give thanks for all the amazing things that God is doing in the midst of a global pandemic!
We pray for the two church plants from our Cross Project team in Kawasaki that launched last year during COVID (in Azamino and Musashi-Kosugi), that the Gospel would continue to spread and take root even during this time.
